Purpose of the guides
Slotivaro's guides explain the rules and practical choices behind online booking in Canada. They are written to be useful whether or not a reader ever hires us. They are general information about website design and are not legal, tax or financial advice.
Sources
We rank sources in this order and label each one in the source list at the foot of every guide:
- Legislation, from official government sites.
- Regulators and government, such as the Competition Bureau, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, the CRTC and provincial governments.
- Standards bodies, such as the W3C, the IETF and the PCI Security Standards Council.
- Primary documentation from the companies whose tools are discussed.
- Secondary sources, such as law firm summaries and university guidance, labelled as secondary.
- Commercial publishers, such as agency price guides, labelled as commercial because they sell what they describe.
Every source in a list was opened and checked against the statement it supports on the date shown at the top of the list. Quotations are reproduced exactly and kept short.
What we avoid
- Statistics we cannot trace to a source.
- Claims about our own results, clients or experience that we cannot show.
- Testimonials, ratings or reviews of any kind.
- Stating a secondary source's interpretation of a law as if it were the law itself.
- Recommending specific vendors as the only option.
The editor
Guides are edited under the pen name Mia Henderson. The pen name makes no claim about personal credentials; the sources carry the weight. See the editor page.
Reviews and updates
Guides are reviewed when a cited rule changes and at least once a year. When a review changes a fact, the source list is rechecked and the date updated.
Corrections
Write to hello@slotivaro.site if you find an error. Corrections that change the meaning of a guide are noted at the end of that guide with the date of the change. Minor fixes, such as typos, are made without a note.
Commercial interests
The owner of Slotivaro has commercial interests in web design services, and this site describes services we sell. Guides may link to our service pages where the link is genuinely useful. We do not accept payment for mentions, and we do not use affiliate links.
