Asking what a booking website costs is a bit like asking what a renovation costs: it depends on how much you are changing and how complicated the rules are. This guide gathers price ranges published by Canadian web design firms in 2026, explains what each range describes and lists the factors that move a booking site's price. Every figure here comes from a business that sells websites, so read them as market signals rather than independent research.
What Canadian sources report
| Source | What the figure describes | Range (CAD unless noted) |
|---|---|---|
| Marvel Marketing | Realistic range for most Canadian small businesses, one-time build | $3,000 to $15,000 |
| Marvel Marketing | Online booking, listed as an add-on to a basic site | $500 to $2,000 |
| Marvel Marketing | Maintenance plan with monthly updates and security monitoring | $50 to $300 a month |
| Ambrite Web Services | Basic professional website for a simple small business site | About $1,500 to $5,000 |
| Ambrite Web Services | Custom WordPress website | About $5,000 to $15,000 and up |
| Impeka | Typical range for a small business site | $3,000 to $8,000 |
| H1Site | Overall range across site types and partners | $1,500 to $50,000 and up (currency not stated for most figures) |
Sources for each row: Marvel Marketing's 2026 cost guide gives the small business range, the booking add-on and the maintenance figure1; Ambrite's July 2026 article gives its basic and custom ranges and says they are practical planning ranges, not fixed quotes2; Impeka lists its small business figure as a typical range benchmark, not a quote3; and H1Site gives its overall range in a March 2026 article4.
How to read these numbers
- They are commercial. Marvel Marketing describes its headline figures as 2026 market data across Canadian agencies and freelancers, and says only its Alberta price table also draws on its own pipeline data1. Every publisher here sells the services it prices.
- Booking is often priced separately. Ambrite lists booking or appointment systems as a feature that raises development cost but gives no separate figure2. Impeka does not price booking for small sites; its only scheduling line, for integrations including scheduling, appears in its mid-sized corporate budget at $0 to $6,0003.
- Running costs are separate. Hosting, maintenance, booking platform subscriptions, payment processing and text message credits all recur.
What drives the price of a booking site
| Factor | Lower cost | Higher cost |
|---|---|---|
| Booking engine | Booking platform embedded on your site | Custom booking layer |
| Scheduling rules | One person, a few services | Several staff, shared rooms, capacity, waitlists |
| Payments | Pay on the day | Deposits that vary by service, packages, memberships |
| Locations | One | Several, in different provinces or time zones |
| Content | You supply finished text and photos | Writing, photography and service restructuring |
| Integrations | One calendar | Practice management, CRM, accounting |
| Privacy needs | General contact details only | Health information and regulated professions |
| Accessibility | Standard testing | Formal audit and remediation of third-party widgets |
Running costs to budget for
- Hosting and domain, unless included in a care plan.
- Maintenance, either a plan or hourly help; Marvel Marketing lists basic plans at $50 to $300 a month1.
- Booking platform subscription, if you use a platform, which varies by provider and number of staff.
- Payment processing, charged per transaction by your processor.
- Text message credits, if your system sends text reminders.
Where a booking project can go over budget
- Rules discovered late, such as a shared room nobody mentioned.
- Content that is not ready when design finishes.
- A platform chosen before testing it against your rules.
- Integrations with older practice software that has limited connection options.
- Changes to deposit or cancellation policy after the build has started.
Most of these are avoidable with a written plan. Our booking planner captures the information a designer needs to quote accurately.
Comparing quotes fairly
When you compare quotes, make sure each one covers the same scope: the number of pages, the booking engine, the rules it handles, payment setup, reminders, calendar integration, accessibility testing, content writing and what happens after launch. Ask whether platform and processor fees are included or extra, who owns the accounts and what the handover includes. A cheaper quote that leaves out calendar testing can cost more in missed bookings later.
How we price
We quote a fixed price in Canadian dollars after discovery, based on the scope in a written plan. Our pricing page explains what goes into a quote and what is billed separately.
Frequently asked questions
How much does online booking add to a small business website in Canada?
One Calgary agency's 2026 cost guide lists online booking as a $500 to $2,000 add-on to a basic site. Complex rules, payments or custom booking layers cost more.
Are booking platform fees included in a website quote?
Usually not. Platform subscriptions, payment processing and text message credits are normally paid directly to the provider.
Why do quotes for booking websites vary so much?
Scope differs: the booking engine, the number of rules and locations, payments, integrations and content all move the price. Compare quotes against the same written scope.
