Google Business Profile Booking Links

Many customers find a local business through Google Search or Maps before they ever see its website. Google Business Profile lets you add a way to book from that listing. There are two quite different ways it can work, and the difference affects which booking software you choose, so it is worth understanding before you plan a booking site.

The simpler route is a link you manage. Google's Business Profile Help explains that you can add local business links that let customers book an appointment or make a reservation: from the profile you choose the booking section, select "Add link", enter the URL and save. If you add several links, one can be marked as the business's preferred link1. The same page notes that these links cannot be added through the Business Profile API or a spreadsheet upload, so each location is set up by hand1. A guide by a Google Business Profile Product Expert at BrightLocal (a secondary source) describes this appointment link as a way to send customers to a booking page on your own website2.

The advantages are control and ownership. The booking page carries your branding, your policies and your service descriptions, and the booking record sits in your own system. The page needs to load quickly and show availability without fuss, because it is the first thing a customer sees after tapping.

Google's help page also says it works with select third-party providers for booking, and that some links on a profile are supplied by partners rather than by the business. A business can remove a partner's link from the booking section, and the page says providers must act on a removal request within five days1.

Behind those partner links is an integration Google offers to booking platforms. Google's Actions Center documentation describes a redirect integration in which platforms that provide appointment and reservation services supply action links, and each link must point to a merchant-specific page where the user completes the action, such as booking an appointment3. In practice, the customer taps the link on Google and lands on the partner's booking page for your business, not on your own site. The same documentation requires the business to have a physical location that can be matched to Google Maps, says Google may include or exclude merchants as it reviews new categories, and points interested platforms to an interest form3. That is why an individual business reaches this route through its scheduling provider rather than directly.

The BrightLocal guide, a secondary source, adds that the business's primary category, services and country all affect eligibility, and suggests checking for a bookings option in the edit profile menu as a practical first test2.

Which route suits which business

If you already use a booking platform that supplies a partner link, it may appear with little effort on your part. If your rules are complicated, such as shared rooms, deposits that vary by service or intake questions, a link to your own booking page keeps those rules intact. You can mark the link you prefer as the business's preferred link when several appear1.

This choice should come before you pick booking software, not after. If a partner-supplied link matters to you, check that the platform has a Google integration. Our guide on choosing a booking platform or a custom build covers this trade-off.

Making the linked page worth the tap

When a customer follows an appointment link, they expect to see booking options straight away, not a home page with a slideshow. A good landing point for the link:

  • Opens directly on the booking step, or on a short page that leads to it in one tap.
  • Loads quickly on a phone. Google's web.dev guidance treats a Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less as good, measured at the 75th percentile of page loads4.
  • Shows the location's hours and time zone if customers might be elsewhere.
  • Uses the same business name and services as the Business Profile.
  • Works with a keyboard and screen reader.

Tracking where bookings come from

Adding a simple campaign tag to the appointment link lets you see how many bookings started from Google Business Profile, without extra tracking scripts. If you serve Quebec visitors, remember that technology able to identify, locate or profile people must be disclosed first under section 8.1 of Quebec's private-sector privacy law5. A plain campaign tag read by your own analytics, set up to respect consent, is usually enough.

Keep the details consistent

Customers notice when the hours on Google say one thing and the booking page says another. Whenever you change hours, services or holiday closures, update both the booking system and the Business Profile at the same time. A care plan can include a reminder before each holiday season to do exactly that.

What we build

We give every booking site a clean booking page URL that works well as an appointment link, keep it fast and accessible, and, where you want a partner-supplied link as well, recommend booking software that has a Google integration. The booking website development page explains the wider project.

Frequently asked questions

Can customers book inside Google without visiting any website?

With both routes described here, the customer taps a link on Google and books on a web page: yours for a link you add, or the scheduling partner's for a partner-supplied link.

Is every business eligible for a partner-supplied booking link?

No. Google's developer documentation requires a physical location that can be matched to Google Maps and says Google may include or exclude merchants, and your scheduling partner must have an integration.

Where should my own booking link point?

To a fast page that opens on, or leads straight to, the booking step on your own website.
